For a while now (at least a decade) movie trailers have tended to give away so much of the film that it’s almost not worth watching the full picture. Therefore I intend to take a look at current movie trailers and make a few predictions. Feel free to join in.
First in the firing line is the new Tom Cruise flick, Oblivion.
Any trailer that makes reference to the “truth” is just screaming TWIST. Once you know there is a twist you can’t help but try to work out what it is.
Cruise, is apparently the last man on earth 60 years after an alien invasion. We won the war but lost the planet and Earth has been evacuated, Cruise is tasked with repairing the drones which patrol the surface and pick off any surviving aliens.
Or is he?
Based on the trailer (looking in books, keen remembrances of the past and even caring for the plant) I’m guessing that Tom is actually, A) an android or B) a clone and that he is in fact working for the aliens (unbeknown to him) and that the drones actually hunt down any surviving humans. Morgan Freeman (who couldn’t look more like Morpheus if he tried) will be the leader of the underground and knows the truth.
In short Cruise thinks he’s the hero but is actually the villain.
Come on Hollywood, sort it out. NO FOOTAGE in trailers FROM THE SECOND HALF OF THE MOVIE.
